| Food-shortage is a growing issue. Therefore it is
essential to understand how food is grown. Project-Potato addresses these issues. The aim of the project is to take 1 potato & grow more (plant-multiplication). To start you need: 1 potato (sprouting or green), a bucket (drill holes in base), soil or potting mix, 1 watering-can (filled), a sunny, frost-free position (inside-window, glasshouse). Cover with a sheet of paper, add 20 mm of soil, put potato in center of base, add more soil until potato is covered, water, put into position. When a green-shoot appears, add soil to tip of shoot, as stem keeps growing keep adding soil. Keep soil moist. The more stem you cover the more potatoes grow. After 3 months put your hand into soil & check for potatoes. As soon as the plant dies down, invert bucket to get at potatoes. Warning! To stop infections (e.g. Tetanus...) always wash hands with soap after touching soil. Enjoy your potatoes & share. |
